South Thailand

Beaches, deserted islands, snorkelling and scuba diving... that was what filled our ten days in South Thailand. We probably spent as much time on or under the water as we did on land... too bad we didn't have an underwater camera, something that we're hoping to rectify the next time we get underwater. However, we did get a DVD made of one of our dive days; Gunga has it now, and will hopefully have a copy for us made by the time we get home.

Our highlights include:

  • Diving Hin Daeng and Hin Buang: Winston; diving Koh Ha: Jen and Gunga
  • Watching Jen do a faceplant during her entry at Koh Phi Phi Le
  • Eyeing monitors on the deserted island of Koh Rok
  • Snorkelling in the deserted coral reefs of Koh Rok
  • Staying at Charlie's on Koh Muk
  • Hooking up with Marcus on Koh Phi Phi
  • Being transported by: train, boat (long-tail, ferry, speed boat), mini-bus, back of pick-up truck, taxi, tuk-tuk (motorcycle cab), plane during our 10 day island-hopping experience.
  • Seeing underwater: octopus, blue tang, black-tip reef shark, barracuda schools, banner fish, moorish idol, lizard fish, shrimp, moray eel, clown fish (nemo), manta ray, feather star, puffer fish, juvenile rock-mover wrasse, lion fish, scorpion fish, grouper, anemone fish (like clown fish), sergeant fish, trigger fish, banded snake eels, among many other flora and fauna.
