In October of 2001, we went to Malaysia with Winston's parents. Some of the highlights included climbing Mount Kinabalu, eating satay, mee goreng and tropical fruit, and re-kindling friendships with cousins, relatives, and friends.

Family and Friends
We were able to meet up with relatives in Kuala Lumpur, Kota Kinabalu, and Singapore.

Around and About
Here are some of the places we visited in KL and Penang

Flowers in Penang Garden
Some really pretty flowers made for some vibrant photos.

Chilling on Manukan Island
One of several islands just off the shore of Kota Kinabalu, Pulau Manukan provided us the perfect place to veg out and get sunburned.

Climbing Mount Kinabalu
This was definitely one of the main goals of coming to Malaysia. The first half of the climb took several hours, but the scenery was impressive and we made several friends at the camp above.
The Peak of Mt. Kinabalu
Climbing to the peak started at 2am the following day, so much of the climb was done in darkness, in order to be able to catch the sunrise at the top. Jen unfortunately got altitude sickness and had to return to the camp, but Winston continued and took these pictures.
Coming Down
On the way down, Jen had seemingly boundless buckets of energy, having been able to sleep while Winston was summitting the peak. It was definitely an incredible climb.

Karumbuni Resort
On the last two days of our stay in Malaysia, we decided to take advantage of Jen's uncle's connections and stayed at the exotic Karumbuni resort. Talk about peace and quiet in a fairy-tale setting... walking along the deserted beach at dawn was certainly memorable!
