In August, 2005, as part of our trip to Malaysia, we went out to the Celebes Sea once again for three days of diving. We stayed at Sipadan Island the year before as part of our One Year, One World trip, and the experience was so incredible, we had to visit again. (See 2004 Sipadan pictures here.)
This time though, we stayed at Kapalai, a water village on stilts that sits on top of a sand bar, about 20 mins away from Sipadan by boat. The Malaysian government had recently shut down the resorts on Sipadan itself for conservation reasons.
The dives were similarly spectacular, although the weather was generally cloudy and the visibility wasn't all that great. However, there was so much to see, it more than made up for the bit of rain that we had! For Kapalai resort pictures, click here.
